Below are some tools and ingredients required for making solid perfume:

Tools-

  • Clean containers for storing your solid perfumes.
  • Labels for giving dates and names to your perfumes.
  • Heatproof glass bowl or double boiler and saucepan.
  • Stirring utensils such as wooden sticks or steel spoons.

Ingredients-

  • Essential oils or fragrance oils according to your preferences and they should blend well.
  • Herbs/Spices/Flowers for giving fragrance complexity and aesthetic appeal.
  • Beeswax or soy wax (2 parts).
  • Carrier oil (1 part) such as fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil or almond oil.

2. Melting Process

In the melting process, we have to melt the wax and mix the carrier oil with this melted wax for making a solid perfume. The step is given below:

  • Prepare a double boiler filled with 2-3 inches of water in a saucepan then place it on top of a heatproof glass bowl. If a double boiler is not available then you can also place a heatproof glass bowl directly in a saucepan.
  • After minimal heating add the wax to a double boiler or heatproof glass bowl and let it heat on a low flame or low temp until the wax melts consistently, one thing to note is that beeswax takes more time to melt compared to soy wax.
  • Now, add the carrier oil to the melted mixture and stir well to perfectly mix both the contents. Carrier oil helps the perfume to soften and smooth application on the skin.
  • After well mixing remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool for 1-2 minutes, make sure the mixture is not too hot to handle and is still in liquid form.

3. Scenting Your Solid Perfume

This one is a creative part in which you can add your desired scents and blend the perfumery which you like.

Check the following guidelines regarding this:

  • First start with the base note: Select a solid foundation that lingers the longest for example vanilla, patchiouli, and sandalwood.
  • Secondly add middle notes: The middle notes give depth and complexity to the perfume by blending with the base notes, taking in the floral scents such as jasmine, lavender, and rose in the middle notes.
  • Lastly add the top notes: In the top notes first burst of perfume evaporates quickly which holds Citrus oils like lemon, grapefruit, or bergamot.
  • After this, you can play around with different ratios of different notes for the perfect blend which would resonate with your personal style.

4. Blending and Pouring

Once you have decided and selected your desired essential oils add them to a bit cooled oil and wax mixture. Now, stir the mixture gently for ensuring an even distribution of fragrance.
Delicately pour perfume solution into the selected glass container of your choice until the brim, let be there some space on top, so that the mixture can settle and solidify completely. This usually takes 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the container and quantity of the perfume.

Pro tip – If you wish to add some dried flowers, spices or herbs for appearance and visuals complexity, just sprinkle them into your desired container of perfume before pouring in the mixture.

5. Labelling and Storage

When the perfume is solidified, put on the lids of the containers and tag them or label them with the date of creation which helps in track of shelf life and add the name according to your choice whichever you want to give to your own creation.
For storage purposes keep the perfume container or bottle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, this helps the perfume to remain fragrant for several months if stored as described.
