Fragrance Tips

What Perfume Does Doja Cat Wear?

The perfume Doja Cat has named herself is Byredo Black Saffron Eau de Parfum. She called it a musky favorite in a 2021 Harper’s Bazaar interview, and no other fragrance has been confirmed by her on the record.

  • Smoky: saffron, leather and dry woods. The dark, low-lit side of her taste, and the only part backed by her own words.
  • Sticky-sweet: juicy berries, candy and gloss. The pink, kitsch, cartoon-cat energy of her early records.
  • Chrome-bright: clean musks, metallic aldehydes and cool florals. The sci-fi polish of her space-age looks and the pared-back minimalism she talks about now.

If you have searched “what perfume does Doja Cat wear” before, you probably found plenty of red carpet coverage and very little about fragrance. That is because she doesn’t say much about it. Doja Cat talks openly about makeup, which makes sense for an artist who has fronted MAC and released her own collection with BH Cosmetics. Perfume comes up far less, so there is one solid answer, a few events that often get misread, and a lot of guessing. Below we separate the documented from the assumed, then build a scent mood board from her style eras, so you can find something that suits your own Doja mood or buy a gift a fan will actually wear.

What perfume does Doja Cat wear? The documented scents

Here is the honest situation as of late October 2026. We read her beauty interviews, the brand announcements she has been part of and the celebrity-perfume roundups that mention her. Only one fragrance comes straight from her, and one fragrance event often gets mistaken for a brand deal. Each entry below carries an evidence label so you can judge it for yourself.

Byredo Black Saffron Eau de Parfum (confirmed by Doja Cat herself)

Evidence level: confirmed, in her own words, unpaid. In a September 2021 Harper’s Bazaar interview about her BH Cosmetics launch, Doja Cat named Byredo’s Black Saffron as a perfume she loves, saying it has “a musky scent that’s really good.” The interview was mainly about her makeup line, which also makes the mention credible. Byredo was not a partner of that project, and nothing suggests she was paid to bring it up.

Black Saffron came out in 2012 and belongs to Byredo’s core collection. Osmoz lists juniper berry, raspberry and grapefruit in the opening, violet, rose and saffron in the heart, and vetiver, leather and blond wood in the base, and files it as a spicy oriental. Sephora groups it under warm woods. In practice it smells like this: a tart, faintly jammy berry note runs into the dry, slightly metallic glow of saffron. Then it sinks into soft suede and a clean, earthy vetiver. It doesn’t smell sugary. It smells dark, a little gritty and quietly sensual, the way a leather jacket smells after a night out.

Her word was “musky,” and that is the most useful clue about her taste. Black Saffron has no huge musk accord, but it reads as warm, skin-close and slightly animalic, which is what most people mean by musky. If that is what drew her in, other leathery and saffron-tinged scents are a reasonable next step for a fan (see our guide to what saffron smells like in perfume and our edit of the best leather fragrances).

Two caveats. First, this is a 2021 comment, and taste changes. We found nothing since then that confirms or rules out a newer favorite. Second, some roundups attach a longer quote about “getting into musky scents” to her. We could not trace that wording to the original interview, so we have left it out.

Miss Dior (attended a launch event, not an ambassador)

Evidence level: documented event attendance only. In late September 2021, Numéro reported that Dior invited Doja Cat to open a flower-filled Miss Dior pop-up in Paris during fashion week. Being invited to a launch is a normal part of fashion week for a star of her profile. It doesn’t make her the face of the fragrance, and Numéro carried no comment from her about how the perfume smells or whether she wears it. That is why we don’t list Miss Dior as “her perfume,” although some sites imply it.

Brand deals that are not fragrance deals

Evidence level: confirmed partnerships, but none for perfume. Her paid partnerships are worth listing, because they are where most of the confusion starts:

  • MAC Cosmetics: announced as global brand ambassador in September 2025, right after the VMAs, where she pretended to eat a lipstick on the red carpet. The deal covers color cosmetics. MAC is not a fragrance house in this partnership.
  • Marc Jacobs: she fronted the label’s pre-fall 2025 fashion campaign, which featured bags and ready-to-wear. Marc Jacobs also sells perfume, Daisy for example, but that campaign was not for a fragrance.
  • BH Cosmetics: a 2021 makeup collaboration with blushes, glosses and palettes, and no scent.

So she does not have a perfume ambassadorship on record, and we found no announced Doja Cat fragrance line as of this writing. Any site that names a celebrity scent “by Doja Cat” should be able to show a launch announcement. We couldn’t find one.

Fan and editor picks (speculation, clearly labeled)

Evidence level: suggestion, not fact. One retailer blog that picked “signature scents” for female rappers matched her with DKNY Be Delicious, but the writer framed it as their own pick for her personality, not something she wears. That kind of piece is fun, but it isn’t evidence. The same goes for the mood board below: everything from here on is a suggestion inspired by Doja Cat, not a claim about her perfume shelf.

Dress the scent like Doja

Knowing what perfume does Doja Cat wear only takes you part of the way. Doja Cat’s appeal is that she changes completely between eras, sometimes within a single week. Each phase has a texture you can almost smell. Here are five of her best-known style moods, each with a matching fragrance family and a few example bottles. To be clear, these are inspired-by pairings for fans and gift buyers. We are not claiming she wears any of these.

Hot Pink kitsch: candy, cherry and cartoon sweetness

Picture her early videos: pastel sets, cow-print chaos, cat ears and comedy. This mood calls for a fruity gourmand with a sense of humor, something that smells like lip gloss, sour candy or a cherry soda left in the sun. Look for cherry, raspberry, strawberry, spun sugar and a creamy vanilla base.

  • Tom Ford Lost Cherry ($$$): a boozy, glossy cherry with an almond edge, for fans who want the kitsch to look expensive.
  • Ariana Grande Cloud ($): airy, sweet and creamy. A friendly gateway into dessert scents.
  • DKNY Be Delicious ($$): crisp green apple, bright and playful, and the editor pick we mentioned above.

Our round-up of the best cherry perfumes goes deeper into this candy-store corner.

Planet Her: space-age shimmer and alien florals

The Planet Her era had iridescent skin, futuristic silhouettes and a whole made-up planet. The scent version is a luminous, slightly unreal floral: radiant jasmine, ambery woods and something mineral or metallic that doesn’t smell quite of this world.

  • Mugler Alien ($$): a solar jasmine with a warm, woody glow, made for someone who wants to give off a little light.
  • Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 ($$$): a glassy, burnt-sugar amber that reads as almost synthetic in the best way.
  • Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 ($$): a single woody aroma-molecule scent that smells different on everyone. Very sci-fi.

Scarlet: blood-red, smoky and unapologetically dark

When Doja shaved her head and leaned into horror imagery, red body paint and a darker sound, she looked like the person who would wear Black Saffron. For January 2023 Paris Couture Week she went to Schiaparelli covered in red crystals, one of the most talked-about looks of that season. The matching scent family is spicy leather and incense: saffron, smoke, resin, dark rose and a bitter edge.

  • Byredo Black Saffron ($$$): the documented one, and the natural centerpiece of this board.
  • Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille ($$$): thick, sweet tobacco leaf and spice, theatrical and nocturnal.
  • Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club ($$): rum and tobacco in a low-lit lounge, a more wearable route into this mood.

’80s glam: big hair, red lips and loud florals

Her MAC campaign leaned into a big ’80s blowout, and she has talked about her love for the decade’s blush-everywhere makeup. Perfume in the ’80s was famously loud, with big tuberose, heavy fruity chypres and shoulder-pad sillage. The modern version is a bold white floral or a jammy rose with real projection.

  • Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb ($$): a sweet, explosive floral-gourmand that fills a room.
  • YSL Black Opium ($$): coffee, vanilla and white flowers, glossy and nightclub-ready.
  • Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower ($$$): a lush, green tuberose for the fan who wants the grown-up diva version.

Our guide to the best tuberose perfumes covers this territory well.

Secret minimalist: clean skin, soft musk and quiet luxury

In her April 2026 Vogue cover story, as summarized by Fashion Week Daily, Doja described herself as a secret minimalist and named Phoebe Philo, Khaite and Proenza Schouler as favorite labels. That is the opposite of the prosthetics and crystals. It suits a skin scent: soft musks, cashmere woods and a hint of iris, the sort of perfume people notice when they hug you rather than when you walk in.

  • Glossier You ($$): warm, skin-like musk that changes subtly with your chemistry.
  • Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume ($$): a clean, almost invisible ambery-woody note, popular with people who dislike “perfume-y” perfume.
  • Narciso Rodriguez For Her ($$): a modern musk classic, sensual and soft, and fittingly a little mysterious.

Personality → notes: matching Doja’s traits to a scent

Mood boards tell you what something looks like. This table goes the other way and starts with a trait. Choose the side of Doja Cat you most identify with, or the one that matches the fan you’re shopping for, and use the notes column as a shortlist when you test in store. The example perfumes are inspired-by suggestions only.

One tip for using the table: most people who love Doja Cat love more than one of her personas, so try pairing a top row with a bottom row. Black Saffron on a night out and a soft musk during the day is a two-bottle wardrobe that covers almost every occasion. If you are unsure how a note will behave on your skin, our guide on finding the right perfume for your body chemistry explains why the same bottle can smell sweet on one person and smoky on another.

Wearing bold, loud fragrances without overwhelming a room

Almost everything on the Doja Cat mood board is a statement scent. Saffron leathers, tuberose bombs and boozy cherries are built to project, and that is part of the fun. It also means the difference between “you smell incredible” and “who is wearing that?” usually comes down to how you apply it, not which perfume you chose. Here is how to wear big fragrance with confidence instead of a cloud around you.

Start with fewer sprays than you think

With a dense eau de parfum like Black Saffron, two sprays is a full dose for most people, and one is plenty for an office or a small dinner. Strength matters a lot here. An eau de parfum carries far more aromatic material than an eau de toilette, so the “three to five sprays” habit many of us learned on lighter scents can overwhelm a room. Our explainer on eau de toilette vs eau de parfum breaks down why.

Choose your spots on purpose

Pulse points warm the fragrance and send it outward, so they work for projection and work against you if you want to keep things quiet. To keep a loud scent personal, spray the back of the neck, under clothing on the chest, or the inside of the elbows instead of the throat and wrists. For more on placement, our guide to where to spray perfume goes through each spot and the effect it gives.

Understand sillage before you go out

Sillage is the trail a fragrance leaves in the air behind you, and projection is how far it reaches from your skin while you stand still. Leathery spice scents often have moderate projection but a long, lingering trail, so other people notice them more than you do. If you can’t smell your own perfume after an hour, that doesn’t always mean it has faded, so don’t reapply automatically. Read up on sillage vs projection to understand what your fragrance is doing.

Layer to soften, not to stack

Layering doesn’t have to mean making a scent louder. A plain, unscented moisturizer underneath helps any perfume last longer and sit closer to the skin. A soft musk or vanilla body product under Black Saffron rounds off its smokier edges and makes it easier to wear during the day. Avoid stacking two high-projection perfumes, for example a tuberose bomb over a boozy gourmand, unless you are going somewhere with high ceilings and loud music.

Use formats built for restraint

Rollerballs and travel sprays help with loud fragrances because they make over-application harder. A dab from a rollerball gives a controlled, close-to-skin version of a big scent, and a small atomizer in your bag means you can top up lightly later instead of spraying heavily in the morning. Browse our picks of rollerball perfumes if that approach suits you.

Match the volume to the setting

The ’80s-glam and Scarlet-era scents above are evening and event fragrances by nature. At the office, at a medical appointment or on a long flight, pick something from the minimalist row of the table instead. Your colleagues will thank you, and your night-out bottle will feel more special when you do wear it.

Gift ideas for a Doja Cat fan

Buying perfume for someone else is a gamble, but a fan of a specific artist gives you an easy story for the gift. Here are some ways to make a Doja-inspired present feel personal without guessing blindly at their taste.

The “she actually wears it” gift

Black Saffron is the safest choice for a superfan because it has a real story behind it: Doja Cat herself named it. It sits in the luxury tier, so if the full bottle is outside your budget, a discovery set or travel size from the brand gives the same scent and the same talking point. Include a short note explaining where the connection comes from. Fans love context.

The era-themed gift

Do they love Hot Pink, Planet Her, Scarlet or Vie most? Choose a bottle from the matching section of the mood board above, and you are giving a perfume that celebrates the music they care about, with no claim that it’s something Doja wears. A cherry gourmand for the candy-colored era and a smoky leather for the darker one is a gift that shows you were paying attention.

The sampler gift

For a Gen Z or teenage fan still working out what they like, a set of minis covering three or four families from the table is often a better gift than one full bottle. They get to explore, and you avoid the “it’s nice but not me” problem. Our guide to fragrances for Gen Z is a good place to build one.

Budget-friendly picks that keep the vibe

You don’t need the luxury tier to capture the mood. Plenty of mid-range and budget fragrances share the warm saffron, sweet berry or clean musk character of the bottles above. Phrase it as “a similar scent profile,” not “a copy.”

Doja Cat perfume FAQ

What is Doja Cat’s favorite perfume?

The only perfume Doja Cat has publicly named is Byredo Black Saffron Eau de Parfum. She told Harper’s Bazaar in September 2021 that she loves it and described it as having a really good musky scent. She wasn’t promoting Byredo at the time, so it reads as a genuine personal preference, though her taste may have changed since.

Does Doja Cat have her own perfume?

Not as far as we can find. As of October 2026, there is no announced Doja Cat fragrance line. Her beauty ventures have been makeup: a 2021 collaboration with BH Cosmetics and a global ambassadorship with MAC Cosmetics that began in 2025. Treat any “Doja Cat perfume” sold online without an official launch announcement with caution.

Is Doja Cat a Dior perfume ambassador?

No. Doja Cat attended Dior’s Miss Dior pop-up launch in Paris in September 2021 as an invited guest, which is common for celebrities during fashion week. That isn’t an ambassadorship, and she gave no public comment about wearing Miss Dior. Her confirmed brand partnerships are with MAC, Marc Jacobs fashion and, earlier, BH Cosmetics.

What does Byredo Black Saffron smell like?

It opens with tart berry and juniper over a glowing, slightly metallic saffron. Then it settles into violet, rose and a soft suede-like leather on a base of vetiver and pale woods. It’s warm and spicy rather than sweet, with a smoky, sensual feel. It works best in cooler weather and in the evening.

Is Black Saffron a unisex fragrance?

Yes. Byredo doesn’t market Black Saffron to one gender, and its mix of leather, spice and woods suits anyone who enjoys warm, darker scents. Plenty of men wear it, and it often appears on lists of unisex niche favorites. If you like gender-neutral perfume, it’s a strong place to start.

How can I smell like Doja Cat on a budget?

Focus on the scent profile rather than the brand. Look for affordable fragrances that list saffron, leather, raspberry or vetiver among their notes, and test them on skin before buying. Several Middle Eastern and indie houses make saffron-forward scents in the budget-to-mid range. Describe them as a similar vibe, not an exact match.

Is Black Saffron a good gift for a Doja Cat fan?

It’s probably the most meaningful choice, because it’s the one fragrance she has named herself. That said, it’s a dark, spicy scent and won’t suit everyone. If you aren’t sure the recipient likes warm, leathery perfumes, a travel size or discovery set lets them try it without the risk of a full bottle.
